In our latest Meet the Maker blog post, we talk to Morten Kaaber from Paper Collective – a really cool brand which we think you’ll love!
Name: Morten Kaaber
Business and position: Founder of Paper Collective
Where are you based? We have our office and shop in a beautiful 18th century building in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark.
What do you design and make? We create art prints in collaboration with designers, artists and photographers.
How would you describe your products? The aim to create items that not only look good, but also do good is at the heart of our vision. While we want each Paper Collective product to tell a unique and appealing visual story, we also started the company with the idea of creating a responsible and sustainable business model. We use FSC certified materials and environmentally friendly production partners and for each sale of our prints, we donate 10 per cent to a good cause chosen by the artist. We hope that our business model can be an inspiration for other, and perhaps bigger, companies in the creative industries.
How did you get into your chosen profession? I have a background in marketing, working for various Danish design brands.
Where do you get your inspiration? With the kind of products we create, inspiration is everywhere, from physical exhibitions and social media to nature and culture – and not least from the talented people we work with. At Paper Collective, collaboration is king. Working with so many talented designers from day one has been a privilege and the main reason for our growth so far.
Describe a typical day to us. Due to the size the company currently is, we all help each other to get everything done. So my day will often start with a few hours working on design and development projects and later in the day turn to working on some sales and marketing. We are still a small team, so we all pitch in where needed.
What is the best thing about your job? Working together with so many amazing talents and creating things that people take so much to heart that has resulted in our products now being hung on the walls of thousands of homes all over the world.
What are you working on at the moment? One of our primary objectives is to always renew and refresh our collection, so we are constantly scouting and searching for new stuff. Though we are still in the middle of a successful launch of our new collection of photographic art, we are simultaneously working on finding the next artists and artworks for the upcoming collections.
